In this day and age, it is a relief to know that Australian producers are at the forefront of animal welfare and diet. After all animals, like us, respond well to being treated with the care and respect they deserve. Read on for more.
The way an animal is managed – what we call Animal Welfare – is critical. Science has proven that without animal welfare in mind, the eating quality of the produce we consume is less than ideal. That is because animals, like us, can get easily stressed, releasing hormones into their body. This makes it all the more important to keep them calm and happy at the time of processing.
If beef or chicken, for example are not treated properly, their natural response – like humans – is fight or flight. This energy, known as adrenalin, is released into their body and in particular, their muscles. If they loose their anaerobic energy at the time of processing (through stress), tests have shown that this drop materially affects pH balance in the meat and can deteriorate the eating experience.
We have been careful to work with Australian producers have some of the toughest animal welfare guidelines in the world. You can read more about these practices on the red meat industry body website, Meat & Livestock Australia, here and on the chicken equivalent, Australian Chicken Meat Federation, here.
Beef and chicken are what they eat. Much like us, they should have a varied and seasonal diet that keeps them healthy, happy and in peak performance.
Our range of 100% grass fed beef have been raised on the rich fertile lands of Queensland, Australia. They are free to roam as nature intended. Our range of Premium MSA Graded beef enjoy the same rich fertile grass lands as well as 70 days of non-GMO quality grains that includes whole wheat, barley and corn. Like our MSA Graded beef, our cage free chicken that have no added hormones enjoy a whole grain diet comprising wheat, sorghum, barley, oats, lupins, soybean meal, canola and other oilseed meals and grain legumes.
In each case, our beef and chicken's diet are held in utmost regard, as they ensure a consistency and depth of flavour that can be maintained month on month.
