Angus or grass fed beef. What is better for you and the family?
When it comes to Angus or grass fed beef, chances are you want to know the difference on flavour, rearing conditions and nutritional quality, so you can make an informed choice for the family. Here, we list out the key differences in an easy to read table.
Our 100% Grass Fed beef | Our Angus beef | |
Rearing conditions | Roam free and eat seasonal grass and other edible plants found naturally in the environment | Also roam free and eat seasonal grass and other edible plants before being transitioned to a grain* based diet of no more than 70 days |
Meat colour | Fat will have a slightly yellow hue, due to the pigments of grass | Whiter brighter fat with more marbling due to grains |
Flavour | Often a more complex profile that can change depending on seasonality, rain fall, and pastoral diet | Generally more buttery flavour that is consistent from one season to the next due to their grain finishing |
Composition | Less total fat than grain fed with higher levels of Vitamin A and E | More total fat than grass fed |
*Most Australian cattle grain feed includes wheat, barley, sorghum and triticale, which are mixed with lupins or field peas (by-products of cottonseed or canola), and silage or hay for added protein, carbohydrates, fats and roughage. This can be contrasted with US grain which is largely soy and corn based.
